Meet Our Team
Below are the people that make Lower the Barrier a reality.
Marcus is widely considered one of the best Vocational Specialist in the Denver Metro area receiving various National, State and Local awards in recognition of his 13 years of outstanding work with marginalized populations and community engagement. Marcus loves facilitating job readiness classes for clients inside and outside jails with emphasis on interviewing skills, identifying obstacles/barriers, sets up employer meet and greets inside jails, vocational training and works with pre-release individuals on time management skills that ensure a successful and warm return to the community and reduces recidivism. Marcus is a bestselling author of the book, "Chosen to Forgive", which talks about his journey before and after the Aurora Theater Shooting where he was shot. He serves on several community boards that focus on helping others in need. Marcus is a national public speaker on social issues such as Re-Entry, Homelessness, Social and Justice reform and influential by sharing his testimony in the passing of the "Ban the Box.” His latest accomplishment is becoming a Honoree to Denver's My Brother's Keeper Initative 2019.
Frances has a passion for helping individuals with justice involved background. She has over 8 years of experience in the justice system. She has worked for Denver Juvenile Probation, Division of Youth Corrections for the State of Colorado. She is a recipient of a Commendation award for her commitment to helping individuals. She is a Licensed Addiction counselor, a state Motivational interview trainer, and a state Restorative Justice trainer. She is currently works within the jail system helping men and women being released have a transition plan to be successful on their reentry to the community.
